Let Us See Life As It Actually Is

Look Closely At Your Life

Many of us, myself included, frequently choose not to closely examine the reality we are in at the moment. Instead, we prefer to imagine how things ought to be. It is as if the mind becomes lethargic when called upon to acknowledge the undesirable.

The consequence of this avoidance of this examination is that we end up not taking requisite and timely action to improve our lot; we blindly hope on some external power factor or fantastic event to step in and make things right… but the situation persists, and we remain frustrated.

Extreme forms of this avoidance attitude include the constant praying to our Higher Power to solve the problems that are inherently within our preserve to handle. I’m not talking about impossible or out-of-control situations that we face now and then. We know when we are indulging in avoidance behavior; we quickly spout fatalistic sayings on inviolate destiny and we make declarations that contrary to our free will and ability. In other words, we claim that there is nothing we can do and that it’s all in God’s hands – even as we know better.

Ladies and gentlemen, you and I must look at our lives as they are playing out right now. We must look at our results, right now. Results don’t lie: We are either living the life we want to live or not; we either have the results we want to have or not. To see reality for what it truly is, we need to stop sugarcoating our deficiencies and to stop making our situation fuzzy in our minds. We must accurately describe things as they really are in order to deal with them.

Goodness knows that I frequently spend a lot of time and money acquiring things to make me feel better about myself, instead of dealing with with bothers me upfront. I suspect that there are a whole bunch of us like that out there. But we should have hope: now that we know how we can be easily self-deluded as to our true condition, we can decide on a proper course of action to remedy the situation.

This is the thought: As we go forward from here, let us deliberately strip off the blinkers that blind us. If a relationship, an environment, a condition or some state is not right for us, let us squarely acknowledge this in order to effect the change we want.
